I hate basketball. Sure, I was the video guy for my High School for three years, but some of that was just part of being from a small school (you either do it or it doesn’t get done).

Thing is, do love to watch my kids play hoops…especially my eldest daughter.

She is not the most graceful young lady in the world and while she is improving her ball-handling, she’ll never be a point guard, she has the one thing you just can’t teach a basketball player – size. She is not the tallest but is certainly the most solidly built player in the league – boys included. She collected 21 rebounds in her first game this year and pulled down 25 boards last week. I can’t wait to see what she does tomorrow.

I try not lot re-live my childhood through my children, but I am glad she is having this experience – an experience that I wish I had had. She has had some rough spots in her young life and it is good to see her having some success among her peers.

This is one of those reasons why we have youth sports. Youth sports are not creating the next professional players…they are to provide a safe environment for a child to succeed and fail. (Let’s face it, most of life isn’t about winning but about losing gracefully and not quitting.)

4 pts and 18 boards – not bad considering the entire team only scored 14pts.
You can’t win them all, that is for certain. We had all our girls bringing the ball up the court at different times, which was a great experience for them. A lot of balls were catching iron but not falling in.
I saw one of our more bashful girls FOUL. She was so apologetic and I was telling her that it was OK. That means she is playing more aggressively.
Next week is another game. This one is against the short-but-quick team.
We will have our leading scorer back for that game.
